Like riding a bike...
A lot of people don't seem to be fond of cyclists. This is manifested in all kinds of ways: from urban planning issues, to verbal abuse, to attacks in the media.
What we all need to remember is that cyclists are also pedestrians, and lots of us are motorists, too. And we all just need to use the roads and/or pavements with awareness and respect.
That's very much the message that blogger Bike Snob NYC gets across in his new book 'The Enlightened Cyclist'.
As well as preaching the path of stressing less about everyday annoyances, like pedestrians stepping out in front of you (which happens to me about 20 times a week), he has also identified some amusing/annoying cycling practices, such as 'shoaling', where cyclists arriving after you at a red light pull up in front instead of behind you, eventually creating a ragged peloton that extends into the junction.
'The Enlightened Cyclist' has its UK launch at Look Mum, No Hands - do drop in (for the launch on May 10 from 5.30pm - or for a coffee, or bike buys) if you're in the Old St area.
If all this bike talk makes you keen to take to the saddle, check out our cycling round-up, with details of the Summer of Cycling campaign, which is setting out to double the number of cyclists in the UK.
