Find out more about working with tiny elastic bands, and discover how to make new designs with loom band videos
You can't fail to have noticed the latest craft trend, mainly among children: loom bands.
Celebrities such as David Beckham, Harry Styles and the Duchess of Cambridge have been seen with a wristful.
The loom was created by an engineer from Denver, Choon Ng, who tried to copy his daughters making bracelets from hairbands. He found his fingers were too big but recognised the absorbing nature of the activity and set about trying to make it easier. He came up with the Rainbow Loom, andafter one toyshop started stocking it, it quickly became a craze in North America, and has now crossed the Atlantic.
Children make them, swap them and try new patterns, and some will even make bracelets in colour combinations on demand for family and friends. You can make bands with your fingers but it's easier with a loom, particularly for more complex designs.
So if you'd like to know more about the world of fishtails, single chains and S-hooks, or you want to help a child get more from their new hobby, here are some videos to get you started.
