Make a colourful button picture
Create a striking image, a fun pattern or even a personalised message with this easy button picture project. By Sarah Moore

You will need
● Measuring tape
● Empty frame, with plain fabric stretched over the back and stapled on
● Sheet of paper and pencil
● Selection of buttons
● Needle and embroidery thread
How to make
1. Measure the inside of the frame and cut out a paper template of the same size. Place the template on a level surface and arrange the buttons on it until you are happy with your design.
2. Starting at an edge, transpose your picture onto the canvas, sewing the first button in place with a couple of stitches.
3. Work your way around the design, sewing the buttons close to each other, and not cutting the thread in between.
4. When the thread is finished, fasten securely by sewing it into the stitches on the back of the canvas and continue with a new piece of thread until your design is complete.
Tip Many charity shops keep a tin of buttons under the counter, so it’s worth asking the staff if they have one you can choose from.
