You'll use this every year
Bring this advent calendar out year after year. Simply place a small gift or chocolate coin in each of the numbered pockets.
You will need:
● 1.5 metres thick cotton or canvas
● sewing machine
● number stencil
● fabric paint
● paintbrush
● length of wooden dowel or cane
● ribbon
Cut two fabric panels measuring 58cm long by 53cm wide and cut five strips, each 10cm wide by 50cm long from the fabric.
Place panels together right sides together and stitch a 1cm seam down both sides and across the bottom edge. Turn the right way out and top-stitch 1cm in from the edge on the same three sides.
Fold over 4.5cm at the top, turning under the raw edge to get a neat finish, and stitch in place along the back. This will form the slot you will slide the dowel into.
To make the pockets, take the fabric strips and turn under a double 1cm seam on one long edge of each.
Cut each of the five strips to make five pockets 9cm wide. Press seams under with an iron on the sides and base of each pocket. The top edge will already have a seam.
Pin the pockets in lines on the main panel, 2.5cm apart, and stitch in place.
To finish off, use a stencil and fabric paint to add the numbers to each pocket. Insert the length of dowel into the top slot and tie on pretty ribbon to hang it.
