Sew a cosy beanbag with a washable cover for your faithful friend to snooze on
For a medium-size dog you will need:
1.1m of plain white cotton (or use an old sheet)
2 cu ft bag of polystyrene beads (£4.25 from John Lewis, 020 7629 7711)
1.1m of 137cm-wide fabric
thread to match fabric
70cm zip
From white cotton, cut two circles 68cm in diameter and two rectangles 106cm x 17cm. Stitch ends of rectangles together to form a ring. Pin and stitch circles to top and bottom, leaving a gap in one side. Fill with polystyrene beads - cut the bottom off an old plastic drinks bottle and remove the lid to use as a funnel - and sew up gap in stitching. For outer cover, cut two circles 68cm in diameter, one rectangle 137cm x 17cm and two rectangles 75cm x 10cm. Insert zip between two small rectangles. Make as for inner bag.
Tip If you can't find a 70cm zip, use two shorter ones with opening ends inserted in the centre.
