Use lengths of ribbon to create a beautiful cushion cover
What you will need
● 38cm x 120cm plain fabric (Furnishing fabrics are usually 137cm wide; ask for half a metre and you'll have plenty)
● Selection of ribbons
● Sewing machine
● Thread to match ribbons
● Three buttons, or Velcro hook and loop pads
● 35cm x 50cm cushion pad
Make the back by cutting two W33.5cm x L38cm pieces of fabric. To make hems, fold and press 1cm to the wrong side along a 38cm edge on each piece of fabric. Fold over again by 1.5cm on one piece, and 5cm on the other. Machine-stitch in place.
Make three buttonholes on the wider hem to fit the buttons you're using, or sew on the Velcro hook pads.
To make the front, cut a W53cm x L38cm piece of fabric. Cut your ribbons to 38cm lengths and arrange vertically on the fabric. Pin and machine-stitch into place.
Lay the ribbon-covered piece right-side up. Put the buttonholed back piece right-side down on top. Align the raw edges and pin in place. Repeat with the other back piece, so that the two hemmed edges overlap in the middle.
Machine-stitch the raw edges allowing a 1.5cm seam. Trim the corners and turn right-side out. Sew on the buttons or Velcro loop pads. Press and insert the cushion pad.
