Make pretty-trimmed napkin ribbons: free sewing pattern
Brighten up plain fabric napkins by tying them with ribbon decorated with brightly coloured crochet and lace flowers.

You will need
tape measure
ruler, chalk and scissors
pretty fabric or ribbon
iron
sewing machine
scraps of reclaimed crochet and lace
fabric dye (optional)
plastic bowl, rubber gloves and a fork
pretty buttons and beads, to decorate
needle and thread
Instructions
1. Cut your chosen fabric into 30cm x 8cm pieces. Turn over a 1cm hem on all sides and press in place. Fold this strip in half lengthwise, iron again and machine-stitch around the open three edges. You should be left with a neat 3cm-wide ribbon. Or cut and hem bought ribbon to the same length.
2. To colour crochet or lace scraps: in a plastic bowl, dye the fabrics, according to the packet instructions, in contrasting shades rubber gloves will protect your hands. Leave to dry.
