Sew a pretty patchwork quilt: free sewing pattern
Give your bedroom a fresh new look with a brightly coloured patchwork quilt

You will need
● 35 squares of fabric 30cm x 30cm in assorted prints, gingham and polka dots, in red, white and blue - aim for a roughly equal number in each fabric design
● 2.2m wadding (150cm wide)
● 2.2m fabric for backing (150cm wide)
To make
Using a sewing machine, stitch together the squares in rows of five, with a seam allowance of about 1cm. Trim and notch corners and press seams flat. Stitch together the seven rows of squares, right sides facing, and press seams flat.
Cut the wadding the same size as the patchwork and then trim off 1.5cm from all edges of the wadding. Fold the edges of the patchwork over the wadding all round and tack in place.
Cut the backing fabric to the same finished size as the patchwork and pin to the back, sandwiching the wadding between the two layers. Turn the edges of the lining fabric to the inside approximately 2cm and pin in place. Handstitch around the quilt using whipstitch.
