Make a patchwork throw
Cosy up with a home-sewn throw

A colourful, homespun throw draped over a sofa can make a room feel instantly inviting. Incorporate favourite items of clothing too worn to repair or even old curtains, back with a blanket for extra warmth, then hand-stitch at intervals to bind the two layers together.
Cut fabric scraps into workable squares, or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, diamonds or irregular shapes. An easy way to start is to sew pieces of a similar width into a long strip. Make a number of strips and then join these together to make a throw of your desired size. Back with an old sheet or blanket for a stronger and more finished looking quilt.
