Make cross-stitch baby booties
A quick and irresistible project. By Helen Philipps

These booties are so easy to make. You only need one piece of felt, a few waste canvas scraps - and there’s hardly any sewing involved either!
Materials
• White stranded cotton
• Thick felt
• Waste or soluble canvas
• Four mother-of-pearl buttons
Step 1
Enlarge the bootie templates (below) on a photocopier until the sole measure 11.5cm in length. Use the templates to cut out two felt pieces of each shape. Centre your stitching, on waste or soluble canvas, in the middle of the upper pieces. Hand sew the upper piece to the sole using whip stitch. Bring your needle up from the bottom to the top, then again up from the bottom to the top, creating loops around the join.
Step 2
Attach the upper piece, then the back piece, to the sole. The back piece should overlap the upper piece slightly in the middle. Once you’ve finished, add a decorative mother-of-pearl or wooden button to both sides of the shoe, at the point where the back and upper pieces meet.
