Stain Buster — Soot

Fabric

Pretreat with a prewash stain remover. Wash on the hottest possible setting for that fabric, adding bleach if safe for the fabric. If the stain remains, sponge with surgical spirit and wash again.

 

Upholstery

Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda or cornflour onto the stain. Leave for at least one hour, and then vacuum. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with a proprietary dry-cleaning solvent and blot until the solvent is absorbed. Keep sponging and blotting until the stain disappears.

 

OR

Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda or cornflour onto the stain. Leave for at least one hour, and then vacuum. Mix one tablespoon of washing up liquid with two cups of cool water. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with the detergent solution and blot until the liquid is absorbed. Keep sponging and blotting until the stain disappears. Sponge with cold water and blot dry.

 

Carpet
