Knit a Christmas angel tree decoration: free knitting pattern
Crochet trim adds the finishing touch to this adorable Christmas angel for the tree. By Julie Carter

You will need
• Small amounts of white and pale pink DK yarn
• Twilleys gold fingering yarn for wings
• 3.25 mm knitting needles
• 3.75mm crochet hook
• Small amount of toy stuffing
• Wool top for hair
For the angel body/dress
Cast on 59 sts
K1 row, P1 row
Start the trellis pattern as follows:
Row 1: K4, * YF, SL1, K2 tog, PSSO, YF, K3, repeat from * to last stitch, K1
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: K1, * YF, SL1, K2 tog, PSSO, YF, K3, repeat from * to last 4 stitches
YF, K2 tog, K2
Row 4: Purl
These four rows form the pattern
Continue until work measures 10 cm.
Draw thread up through all the stitches.
Gather up tightly.
Stitch at top.
For the angel wings (x2)
Using Twilleys gold fingering cast on 15 stitches
Continue in garter stitch for 3cm
Next row K2 tog, K to last 2 stitches, K2 tog
Knit 2 rows
Repeat the last 3 rows 5 times more until 3 stitches remain
Cut yarn, thread through 3 stitches
Repeat for second wing
For the angel head
Using pink cast on 4 sts
Row 1: K4
Row 2: K1, make 1 to end (8 sts)
Row 3: P1, make 1 (16 sts)
Row 4: K1, make 1 (32 sts)
Continue in st st for 10 rows
Next row: P2 tog to end (16 sts)
Next row: K2 tog (8 sts)
Next row: P2 tog (4 sts)
Next row: K2 tog (2 sts)
Cast off 2 sts
Sew up side seam and stuff with toy stuffing
For the edging of dress
Using a crochet hook join yarn and slipstitch all along base of dress
Double crochet around edge.
Finish off
Stitch down side seam of angel dress
Stitch on head and wings
Stitch on eyes and mouth
Stitch wool top on head for hair
With gold fingering make a crochet chain, join into a ring to form a halo
Stitch on top of head
